On this episode of Rendering Unconscious, I sat down with Miriam Morrissette is an artist, occultist, and former public school educator.
The conversation delves into Miriam's journey from a Christian fundamentalist upbringing in Oregon to exploring art and magic. Influenced by a neighbor, Miriam discovered a passion for collage and cut-up methods. She also discusses her introduction to tarot, which coincided with her sobriety journey. Miriam highlights the impact of their chronic illness and the role of magic in her life, including experiences at an occult store and classes with Laetitia Barbier. Miriam also touches on the challenges of growing up neurodivergent, the importance of inclusive education, and the therapeutic value of art in processing trauma and personal growth.
Miriam Morrissette’s work focuses on the exploration of girlhood, healing from religious control, sexuality, witchcraft, magick; and their myriad of intersections. She has a BA in English from Oregon State University where her thesis focused on trauma, disability, and queerness. She is currently a full-time artist living in Northern Nevada.
