RU347: CARTER CARTER ON ABOLISHING THE PSYCHOANALYTIC INSTITUTE
In this episode, Carter discusses the need to abolish psychoanalytic institutes, arguing they do more harm than good. He advocates for a DIY approach to psychoanalysis. Carter criticizes the coercive nature of institutional training, the lack of empirical evidence for what makes for an effective analysis, and the financial incentives that drive these institutions. He highlights the pervasive sexual boundary violations, racism and classism, and the inadequate handling of complaints. Carter also compares psychoanalytic institutes to chambers of commerce, emphasizing their role in promoting business among members. He suggests that independent, open-access education is more beneficial and ethical.
